FAQs
How fast can I expect my prototype to be completed?
Dependent upon all details needed. Material availability, part complexity, tolerances needed, quantity, etc. Normally 3 to 6 weeks ARO. See our capabilities page for more information.
What kinds of certifications do you guarantee?
Material certifications, plating, and heat treating certifications and any process certifications required will be sent with the parts.
What tolerances can you hold?
In general, +/- .005 is standard, but many times we are asked to hold tolerances down to +/-0.001 or even +/-0.0005. Learn more about Quality Control at Prototype & Short-Run Services.
Can you still work with hand-drawn sketches?
Yes, we work with hand-drawn sketches all the time as long as tolerances are understood. We also offer Manufacturing Assistance.
What types of metals are you equipped to work with? Are there any metals you cannot work with at this point in time?
Every metal from Steel to Titanium as well as Brass, Copper, Aluminum, Beryllium Copper and every grade of Stainless Steel. Learn more about the materials we work with.
What is the minimum/maximum number of parts you can manufacture?
Prototypes can be one to ten, but some are in the hundreds. Short runs are from 12 to 250,000 parts. Our full list of capabilities can be found here.
Do you offer manufacturing assistance?
Yes! It is very common to work with our engineers on the phone or in person for material selection and toolmaker manufacturing suggestions. Learn more about Manufacturing Assistance.
What is the process if the prototype does not work out?
Depending upon what the customer needs, we work with you to modify the next version. In the past, we have gone up to 12 different versions before settling on a final prototype. Learn about Quality Control.
Do you ship all over the world?
Yes. Canada and Mexico are common.
What do you need to provide a quote?
A print with materials, processing details, and quantities. We’ll take it from there.
How does the payment process work?
We accept COD, credit card but mostly Net 30 once credit terms are established. Some tooling requires ½ down to get started.
What is the minimum/maximum metal thickness you can work with?
We have gone down to .0005” Stainless Steel and up to 0.187” in softer metals. We figure out ways to get the job done. See our Capabilities page for full details.
How fast can I expect my wire EDM processed part to be completed?
Depending on the complexity of the part, our timeline ranges from a couple of days to a couple of weeks.
What tolerances can you hold?
We can easily hold and obtain wire EDM tolerances from +/- .002. With multiple cuts, we can obtain a tolerance of +/-.0002.
Do you work with hand-drawn sketches?
Yes, we consistently work with hand-drawn sketches, as long as the tolerances are understood.
What types of metals are you equipped to work with? Are there any metals you cannot work with at this point in time?
Our state-of-the-art wire EDM machines allow us to cut any material that conducts electricity. There are no metal materials that we cannot cut using our EDM hole drilling capabilities.
What is the minimum/maximum number of parts you can manufacture using your wire EDM processes?
We can manufacture anywhere from 1 to thousands of parts using our wire EDM processes at any given time.
Do you offer EDM hole drilling & wire EDM machining design assistance?
Yes, it’s very common for our customers to work with engineers over the phone, or in person, for material selection and toolmaker design suggestions for their wire EDM processes.
Where do you ship your finished wire EDM products?
We have the capabilities to ship our wire EDM products all throughout the world.
What do you need to provide a proper wire EDM service quote?
All we need is a PDF, or print and quantities, and we’ll take it from there.
How does the payment process work for your wire EDM services?
After we mutually decide on the terms of purchase we are then able to accept Cash on Delivery or a Credit Card payment.
What is the minimum/maximum thickness of metal your wire EDM machines can work with?
Our wire EDM machines can work with metal thicknesses anywhere from .001 to 16 1/8”.
What is the largest part your wire EDM machines can cut?
The largest diameter of a part our wire EDM machines can cut is 15” x 23” x 16.5” thick.
How accurate are your wire EDM machines?
Our EDM machines are highly accurate and can hold a tolerance of +/- 0.0001.”
What is the smallest sized hole your wire EDM machines can cut?
The smallest hole our EDM machines are currently able to cut is .011” with a 1/8” thick material or less.
